How do I prevent rust in my blower?

A common issue we see, particularly in the carpet cleaning industry, is rust inside the blower.  Howden warranties their Roots blowers against manufacturing defects, but does not cover normal wear and tear or damage caused by improper use or maintenance, so rust inside the blower will not be covered by the warranty. (Click to view the Howden Roots warranty)

To avoid this issue, it is important to operate the blower dry for at least 10 minutes prior to shutdown and ensure no carryover (water or debris) from the separator is ingested by the machine.

If you do already have some rust inside your blower it may be possible to remove the rust without fully tearing down the unit and sandblasting. Click here to view our recommendations for removing rust in your unit.  If this option will not work for you, pdblowers can fully tear down your unit, clean the rust away by sandblasting, and reassemble the unit.  There are labor charges and replacement parts required for this service which will be determined and quoted after inspecting your unit. Fill out our service request form to schedule an inspection of your blower.
