Pipe Expansion Joints isolate the blower or vacuum pump from other system components to allow for thermal expansion, pressure spikes and misalignment of the piping. The most common flanged rubber expansion joints feature single or double arched bellows constructed of molded elastomers. Standard single arch models from pdblowers are made of EPDM elastomer.
Functions of an Expansion Joint
-Reduces or eliminates flange loading on the blower
-Allows for thermal expansion of the blower casing (cylinder)
-Vibration isolation protecting the blower and piping system
-Reduces harmonics/sound transmitted down the pipeline
-Compensate for misalignment
-Accommodates directional movement
