Our high definition plasma cutter creates clean, intricate profiles to satisfy the most demanding metal shaping requirements. We use the Model Platemaster™, designed by Messer Cutting Systems, to cut carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials. This capability enables the fabricators in our shop to create custom shapes on demand, with speed and accuracy.
Plasma Material Capabilities
Our equipment uses a jet of hot plasma combined with an electrical arc to cut material up to 1.25” thick. For materials between 1.25” and 2” thick, we use a separate oxyfuel torch machine head. Any material with electrical conductivity can be cut with high definition. It does not cut plastics.
Maximum cutting width is 10’ on the 10’x26’ table. Our 5-ton bridge crane can load up to 10,000 lbs. onto the table.
Features of the plasma cutter that contribute to its performance include:
- Precision guides for vertical positioning of the tool
- A lifter component for highly accurate height sensing.
- An automatic gas console, Hypertherm (HPR260XD) for the consistency to accomplish the ISO 9013 standard
- Operates 38% faster than other systems
The plasma cutter works according to manufacturing specifications (CAD files or Macros) automated through its CNC system. All process data is set by an operator with parameters controlled by an exclusive material handling database. To minimize scrap and maximize material usage, a complex algorithm efficiently organizes cutting for automatic nesting of shapes.
